Tom,
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, set in Africa, hunting.
Its a book that you can let your imagination have you hunting in Africa with him.

Into a new one now.

James A. Michener's "Centennial"

Written to commemorate the Bicentennial in 1976, James A. Michener's magnificent saga of the West is an enthralling celebration of the frontier. Brimming with the glory of America's past, the story of Colorado - the Centennial State - is manifested through its people: Lame Beaver, the Arapaho chieftain and warrior, and his Comanche and Pawnee enemies; Levi Zendt, fleeing with his child bride from the Amish country; the cowboy, Jim Lloyd, who falls in love with a wealthy and cultured Englishwoman, Charlotte Seccombe. In Centennial, trappers, traders, homesteaders, gold seekers, ranchers, and hunters are brought together in the dramatic conflicts that shape the destiny of the legendary West - and the entire country.

I'ts a biggie. grin 1105 pages
I think I'm going to enjoy this one.

I like a wide variety of books. But I have a weakness for sci-fi books.

Wool is a self published book that has recently gotten a lot of attention. Mostly because it's a really good dystopian book/series.

I would be surprised if it didn't come out as a movie within the next few years.

Ian, Centennial was a TV mini-series some years ago, and one of my favorites. It starred a LOT of Hollywood folks and it was well done. Robert Conrad was Pasquinel, Richard Chamberlain was McKeag, Lame Beaver was played by Michael Ansara, Charlotte Seccombe played by Lynn Redgrave, and Levi Zendt by Greg Harrison.

I took your advice and ordered Green Hills of Africa from eBay. Did you ever read "Lions of Tsavo"? It was made into a movie some years ago starring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas. Although Hollywood took some liberties with the actual events (the Michael Douglas character never happened), it is a very interesting movie.

I should have added the name of the movie: "The Ghost and The Darkness". That is what the natives named the two man-eating lions that preyed on them while building a railroad and bridge. It's a very interesting movie! wink

No I didn't, never herd of the movie either. I'll go look it up.
I've been getting my books through Amazon digitally as I have an Kindle reader, actually the second one I've owned.

I also download a few free from the internet, mostly they are fairly old books though.
Still Zane Grey and Louis L'amour manage to entertain me. grin

I have WOOL on order from eBay, just finished Jungle, and will start The Green Hills of Africa which just arrived today. I also finished a biography on Jim Bowie.

The biography on Jim Bowie sounds a good one as well, Tom.
