Mine either. grin

Its actually against the law here to hunt and kill snakes, but the law also states that you may destroy them if they are a threat, in other words if they come up to the house they get a left barrel of #9 shot out of a Merkel shotgun. laugh

Speaking of firearms, I got my little .44 bolt action carbine tuned in. It's wearing a 1.5-4x scope for now and shooting 270-grain reloads very well. I sure hope to take some game with it this fall. We're less than a month to fall bear season in some hunts here.

What are your loads for these?

So far I've only experimented with the 240gns, factory projectiles and hard cast.
The hard cast are local manufacture HRBC and getting some great accuracy with 21.6gns IMR-4227 1504fps.

I haven't tried them on pigs yet, but they sure smack into a gum tree with authority. grin

I'll double check my exact load Ian. I know the bullet is a 270 grain Speer Deep Curl (used to be a Gold Dot but this is the exact bullet with a new name). I don't have it loaded extremely hot, but it hits hard. The powder is H110, I'll have to check the charge. I've finished many bear with this load out of a 4" S&W 629 and they do not argue when it hits them, so I feel really confident pushing it down the longer barrel of the Ruger.

According to our equivalent charts from ADI Australian powder manufacturers The H110 is the same as IMR4227 that I'm using. Here its equivalent is AR2205.

Well cool, I hadn't realized that. I double-checked my load, it's 19.0 grains of H110 behind the 270-grain Speer Deep Curl. The Speer manual rates it at 1205 fps. Max loads for the 270g are about two grains heavier. Those loads of yours for the 240g should be thumpers smile

Actually Lyman's reloading handbook 48th lists IMR-4227 max as 24gns for the 240gn, I wouldn't try it as 21.6 seems to nearly fill the case, so it would be compressed. It does list my load as the most accurate of all tested and that's where I first got onto it.

I've read that hard cast will give too much penetration, but I can't see that applying too much with pigs. I've shot plenty of bores (SHOULDER SHOTS)with a 3006 and .303s without an exit hole, the smaller pigs might be a different story.
