Easter is almost done and dusted here now.
Traffic would be horrific with everyone making there way home to start back to work again tomorrow.
Its good to be retired and keep away from the lot of that madness. smile
I hope everyone is enjoying the break.

We went into the apple/nut region in Blue Mountains and it was crazy how many people were there during the day

The last time I stayed at the Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves was 1963. grin
I have driven through a couple of time over the years though.
It is a beautiful area though.

I am getting excited for warmer weather. I am waiting for it to get warm enough to take the kiddo out camping at my stomping grounds in the high country.

Nearly there but still too much snow to take the kid for an overnighter in hammocks.

Its pretty much the oposite here, MB.
Winter is the preferable time to camp and hunt. There are many who head off to camp all year round, the dedicated ones, that is. grin

Some trivia.
Seeing as its ANZAC day here next Tuesday. smile

"The Diggers Darling"

During WW2 my father worked on the production of the Owen machine gun at Lysaght's in Newcastle NSW.

The Owen Gun, which was known officially as the Owen Machine Carbine, was an Australian submachine gun designed by Evelyn (Evo) Owen in 1939. The Owen was the only entirely Australian-designed and main service submachine gun of World War II and was used by the Australian Army from 1943 until the mid-1960s.

After being rejected as not useful for military purposes.
Owen's neighbour, Vincent Wardell, ( a friend of my father) discovered Owen's prototype in a sugar bag.

Sten and Thompson submachine guns were used as benchmarks. As part of the testing, all of the guns were immersed in mud and covered with sand to simulate the harshest environments in which they would be used. The Owen was the only gun that still operated after the treatment.

Eventually, their worth become known and were also ordered and used by the United States and New Zealand military.
