Hunting is always better than hurting, but these days they come as a pair. But, if I gotta do it on my hands and knees, I'll hunt till they find my bones somewhere. Still a lot of pig in the thickets and this rain has made the sneak easier. I want one old boar bad enough to have learned most of his tricks and haunts. Its just a matter of time now...

I appreciate the fire more these days to warm the crik outta my knees, and when I get home Rose always has something hot for supper.

Recon I gotta go North pretty soon, gotta get back into the high country. I miss the Elk, Griz, and wolves... They keep you honest.

What time of the year is best for hunting in the US ?

Here it is definitely winter.

Game laws govern what is in season and where, but I hunt all but spring when there are young-un's about.

Fall is a primary "season".

I have a prevailing urge to be out and about all year. Hunting provides a handy excuse for that activity. It also hones skills and senses that tend to atrophy fairly quickly- like peripheral vision and knowledge of where game is located and what they are doing. Lots of the time I am out without a gun- but still hunting.

We Don't have seasons as such, unless we are hunting ducks, even then it depends on where you are. Out in remote country nothing exists.

It was 42C here yesterday, (107.6F)that soon takes the joy out of tracking around the bush.
Summer is fine for night hunting though, many times I went out at night after pigs, if it was too hot, I'd just stay home and watch telly. smile

Winter is a great time to hunt, even in the high country it doesn't get much below 0C 32 deg Fahrenheit.
