Went for a little walk today down to the local bush. I have been busy unpacking at the new place (still - I have too much crap) and looking for permanent work (instead of the few days work I find here and there) but today I said to myself, bugger it, I'm off to the Bush.

I did not realise I missed this bushland so much. The birds, the fresh breeze, the memories of having played in this bush for 16 years as a kid all came flooding back. Next time I plan to go further into the valley to the creek and beyond but I was just so happy walking in my old stomping ground I was content just to visit my old favourite rock climbing area. Pretty sure if you right click and select View Image you get a bigger pic.

As soon as I got there I took a pic of the trail:

I walked about 20 feet and said, bugger your trail - I'm going bush.

That's how I got to this view:

I quickly found the little cliffs and rocks I used to climb. We used to call this Koala Rock - for obvious reasons:

I used to climb all these little cliffs from about aged 10 - 16:

This little overhang/cave used have a hermit living there when I was a kid. He's gone.......but the rock has a little chimney hole in the back and water gathers behind it so snakes usually stay out. Soot all over the ceiling from years of fires:

This is the view from his cave - I miss that old guy:

This little series of overhangs is where we used to smoke cigarettes and whatever when we were teenagers:

Believe it or not I used to climb this with no ropes or chalk or rubber boots when I was a kid:

Lamentably I did not take a knife. I was just keen to get in the bush, away from all the madness. When I next go down I plan to take some pics of the creek we used to dam every weekend...lol. If I go about 5 miles down the valley I get to where the creek turns salty as it meets the main waterway that feeds into Sydney Harbour.

I was only there for an hour but it felt so good to be back. I love my country and I especially love the bush. I must have been mad not going there for so long.

Great pictures mate, and I'm glad you were able to get out into the scrub again.
I always reckon that a feeling of peace comes over you when you get out into the bush, one of the reasons I live where I do.
A bit black out there at the moment after the recent burn off. grin

You need to make it a regular trip now, if I don't wander out into the scrub at least two or three times a week I'd go insane. laugh

Nice pics Magoo!

You're right, nothing soothes the soul like being out in the bush.

Great pics and glad you got to get away for a bit. Nothing better than some time in the woods.

Looks great Brother. I can't believe you didn't carry a knife. when I put on my britches, a knife is the first thing in a pocket.

Sadly, being part of Commonwealth, here you need a good excuse for carrying a knife on you. Sometimes people figure it's safer to don't take the knife rather than having to explain themselves...
