I always wondered why the Battle Guard didn't seem to create a lot of interest, where the Battle Rat did??

They came out as a one off Rat and I imagine they all sold quickly, but didn't seem to create any fuss after that.

What are your thoughts.

Seems like a lot of folks don't like knives with a top guard. Lots of pictures of knives with the top guard ground off or custom shop specials sans top guard, me, I like them and I'd pick up a Battleguard in a heartbeat if I had the money and opportunity.

I don't know if that's the reason for the knife in question, but most comments/posts I see regarding the Rodent 6 involves specimens with the top guard removed.

Even though I've owned the Battleguard since they came out, I can honestly say that it has never became a favorite, though I could never give a reason for that.
There is not one thing that I could say about the guard that is detrimental to the knife, other than I believe that I'm just not used to owning a knife with a guard. grin

I've never been fond of them, though I have one or two with Guards- both Cold Steel (SanMai3 and carbon 5). Seems to fit the SanMai ok, but not the Trailmaster. Both just lay around unused.

The trailmasters looks sweet to me. I have "Almost" bought one a few times.

In Carbon V it is a good blade, and I have used it a bit after reprofiling and cold-bluing. It just ain't a Bussekin blade. smile

I broke a hilt on one and pulled the handle off- not full-tang and prone to rust under the handle. They sent me a new one, and I sealed the joint between the handle and hilt and where those meet the blade ...then I lost interest because by then I had a real knife (Busse BM/e) and the rest is history.

I've never owned a Cold Steel blade.

In fact, I've only owned a Puma and Green River knives until the Busse's came along, then I went Burko buying them. grin

I have a Cold Steel SRK. Not a bad blade in 1095 Carbon V. I keep it in my work backcountry pack as a just in case fixed blade.

I tend to use my busse-kin blades for regular use blades.
