A nice string of elk in their winter ground, pic taken while cougar hunting

These elk had come out of the hills and were hitting the sugar beets left after harvest in some of the fields about a mile out of town.

Here's a nice bull in my trapping area, also winter ground for big game. This picture was taken at long range, fully zoomed in with a cheapo camera, and then I think I still had to blow it up after it was downloaded, so looks pretty grainy. Doesn't do him justice, but he sure looked good up on the hill that day smile

One of my nicer bulls, taken on a general season, public ground hunt. It was great fun until the work began smile grin

Yea, I get it. Looked like a lung shot from the blood on the snow. Thought maybe you got him quartering away and dropped him dead with one shot. smile

I've tried to play nice with those big bulls in the past. If they ever get their legs gathered up under them they can flat give you problems even with a solid hit. Any more I pound 'em until they're down unless it's very obvious that it's a done deal. Or maybe I need to pack a bigger rifle. Sometimes I think .50 cal isn't overkill for the big ones, lol.

LOL. A bit like our Buffalo, some of those old bulls take a bit of putting down.

I shot s big old loner six times with a 30-06 once before he went down onto his knees.

I can only imagine what your buffalo can take. Luckily our elk don't charge, LOL. grin

I have watched a few videos of your buffalo taking a round right to the pump and then charging after the shooter. Then running off and taking quite a few hours to finally stop long enough for the finishing shot. Very tough indeed.
