Did you see the Nights X Melbourne Storm game last weekend with Alex McKinnon from the Nights getting injured?

A terrible accident.

I can't imagine what it would be like to see a game where one of the players broke his neck. That would be terrible.

It was a terrible accident, Lora. 3 players tackled him and he was lifted slightly off the ground and then they kind of slammed him head down. He had started to roll and then he got injured.

It was a while before play resumed and I think that 1 or 2 players stopped playing. The Newcastle Knights have dedicated the rest of the season's games to Alex McKinnon.

I haven't checked too much on his recovery but he could move body parts and they think that in about 2 years he will be walking again. No football, though.

One player here broke his back a few years back and they said he would never walk again. He is walking as far as I know.

It is amazing how these athletes can recover and endure such strains each game.

We all wish him the best recovery possible.

Lora,
The young fella who was injured was a well respected and very much liked young bloke who grew up local to the area.
He is in an induced coma and it's way too early for him to be out of the woods yet.

Here's a link, but a warning, it shows footage of the tackle, so I've only posted the link.

That is terrible! The poor kid, I hope that everything goes well with recovery.

I'm not going to lie though, when I first read "football" I thought soccer. Rugby is definitely an intense sport!

I watched the video and my heart goes out to him and his family. I had the same thing happen with less traumatic results 20 years ago. I only sprained my neck and can vividly remember the care that was taken in moving me. I hope for the best recovery possible.
