On the whole, I like winter better than summer- it tends to force most folks out of the areas I like best. In summer folks are everywhere!!

We're lucky in that regard, we don't have the population to get that many around, unless you go to the national parks that have facilities such as barbeques, toilets etc.

They are the last places that you would ever find me. grin

I don't do parks either. "Improvements" like toilets, fire pits, paved trails, raked (groomed) campsites) tables, and the like turn me off completely- even if no-one was there. I like to find a likely spot, camp, and leave no sign I was ever there. Most folks don't understand that ...until they go with me and find how excellent it really is. smile

I'm with you Carl. It's not really camping if you are in a prepared campsite. I'd much rather find a quiet spot off the trail and away from everything.

Yea growing up we always just found a spot and made camp far away from everything. A lot of times you needed a small boat or kayak to get where we were and it was very very seldom we would ever run into someone else.

But around here the only places that have woods ARE parks. And if you stumble away from camping areas you run into a lot of homeless hideouts and drug areas.

I have spent some time searching for camp sites away from the designated set up areas and found id rather camp at those setup areas with my children than take a chance and a couple not so friendly drifters come up on us at night.

But im not a huge fan camping around strangers. Thats why a lot of times we drive many hours to get away, pay for a remote cabin in the woods, Or i look at satellite images and find a remote area and have the wife drop me off the side of a road somewhere and i hike till im happy with where im at.

im hate camping around other people
most of the time they are loud and annoying
i like to be as remote as possible but still be able to call for help (in cell coverage)
