HK,
That Turkey pictured had been tamed somewhat before he arrived here, We do have them wild in the bush here, but they are far more elusive than that fella.

I often hear them calling out in the bush here, but they make you work to find one.

Our true wild ones are pretty wary. The suckers definitely have the best eyes of any wild critter I've encountered.

Those buggers are really skittish, even the ones that rummage in the city parks/streets. Out bush they are like lightning, you'll hear them but seeing them is really just very short peaks.

I have tried bow hunting ours and let me tell you they are extremely hard to get into range. They are like crows. There is always one watching to warn the others of danger. Trying to draw a bow is darn near impossible.

I've heard Turkeys are among the hardest to hunt with a bow, but I've tagged more than one with a paintball. smile

I hunt from the ground with no blind, so yes I will say they are probably the hardest animal that I have ever hunted. I swear they have eyes in the back of there head.

I think the hardest to hunt are doves. Some folks recommend using a shotgun, but I never tried that. wink

On a steep hillside near our home grows a giant oak tree. They climb the hill, then fly to the tree to roost ...the whole rafter seems to be up there. At dawn, when there is just enough light to make out the front sight, they are quite easy to get. It is almost like shopping at the store.

In the bush, you can hear but rarely see them, and they steer clear of open areas where bow-hunting is possible unless you study their habits enough to get there first and hunt as if from a blind...
